One London-based nonprofit technology company is aiming to create a worldwide wave of positivity today on social media through an empowering hashtag.
For a third consecutive year, Lightful is encouraging social media users from all walks of life to #ReclaimSocial. According to data provided by Lightful, in 2019, 5,500 users earned 43 million impressions, across more than 7,600 Tweets.
“Social media has become very negative. We are reading every day stories on how fake news, trolls and bullies are turning our news feeds into a battleground that ends up affecting our mental health,” the company writes in a social media toolkit for the day. “#ReclaimSocial started back on February 6th, 2018 with hundreds of charities sharing their own inspiring stories on social media. The message was clear — it was time to #ReclaimSocial for good. After reaching millions of people up to now, it’s time to build a bigger community of people who want to change the face of social media.
“You don’t need to be a celebrity or an influencer to be inspiring,” the guide reads. “And social media has already proved this in the past.”
Since launching the initiative in 2018, Lightful has made the #ReclaimSocial concept part of its core mission. Its head of social media and content, Tereza Litsa, outlined the company’s year-round #ReclaimSocial efforts in a recent blog post, which also detailed the various ways that nonprofits and individuals can get involved.
“In 2020, the goal is to focus even more on building a movement of people who are making our feeds more inspiring,” Litsa wrote. “The message is not just trending once a year anymore.”
The #ReclaimSocial toolkit includes links to download editable assets for use on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as assets for print messages.
