Call of Duty is having one of its usual Warzone and Modern Warfare double XP weekends for weapons and tiers and general XP, but players have noticed a significant issue with it in the wake of this week’s season 4 update patch.
Players may discover that they are not getting as much XP as they would normally from a double XP weekend, that’s because they are getting…effectively the non-boosted amount. While double XP is active, the base XP you get has been cut in half. So rather than a 900 XP action getting you 1800 XP, that action now gives 450 XP which doubles to…900 XP, exactly the same.
There’s a hugely upvoted thread on the reddit Call of Duty forum accusing Infinity Ward of doing this on purpose to force people to buy more battle pass tiers or something, but the likely explanation is technical, not malicious, as I can’t see any way that Infinity Ward would purposefully halve all XP for a double XP weekend so it’s the same as any other day. That makes absolutely no sense.
This double XP weekend lasts until Tuesday, so there is plenty of time to fix it, but we haven’t heard anything from Infinity Ward yet about the issue. From what I’ve seen this does seem to apply to all types of XP, including weapon XP. If it persists, I would expect that they would make up for it with an extended double XP session or something. The problem with these Warzone and Modern Warfare seasons is that they’re so short, there’s really no time to lose. You need to get through the entire battle pass in about two months, which is no small feat, and these 4 day stretches of double XP are pretty essential to that.
I just wanted to write this so you understood what was happening and why you might not be ranking up as fast as you would normally expect. Check back here for an update about the situation, and we will see if Infinity Ward issues a fix before this weekend ends, or if they will have to have players make this up at a later date. That remains unclear for now, but maybe don’t grind too hard until you know what’s going on, as theoretically, this could be fixed at any minute, and you’re just wasting your effort at 50% efficiency.
More to come, stay tuned, and I’ll update as soon as I’m able.
