Just a month after scoring a massive win on charts all around the world, Blackpink has started to roll out their new single, which has also turned out to be extremely popular upon arrival. Now, the group has landed not just another notable placement on the singles ranking in the U.K., but one of the most successful tracks of all time when looking only at girl groups from their home country.
Blackpink’s new single “How You Like That” debuts at No. 20 on the U.K. songs ranking this week. That’s a lofty beginning for any cut from any musician, let alone a tune performed in a language other than English.
Thanks to its No. 20 placement, “How You Like That” now stands as the second-highest-charting single of all time in the U.K. among releases by South Korean girl groups. All-female vocal acts are hugely popular in the Asian nation, and in the past several years they have started to make commercial impacts in the Western world as well, with Blackpink asserting themselves as the biggest name to fit that description in the territory.
Amazingly, it was only a few weeks ago that Blackpink made history by landing the highest-charting single in U.K. history by a South Korean girl group, so clearly they are having an incredible month or so. The band teamed up with Lady Gaga for the tune “Sour Candy,” which was chosen by the pop star as a promotional single from her new album Chromatica. The cut was released a day before the project appeared in full, and it eventually made its way to No. 17 on the chart.
“Sour Candy” holds as not only the highest-charting song in U.K. history by a South Korean girl group, but also the fifth-highest-charting track by any musician from the country, as only a handful of releases by the likes of Psy, BTS and Pinkfong have risen higher on the all-style list.
“How You Like That” is the first taste of Blackpink’s forthcoming debut album, which is slated to arrive later this summer. The set, which doesn’t yet have a title, will also be preceded by a single, which could come in just a few weeks.
