At this point in their career, BTS is one of only a relatively small number of artists who can all but guarantee they will hit No. 1 when they release a new album. There are few acts who could beat them to the top of the Billboard 200, and since none of them were planning on dropping a full-length at the same time, the K-pop act was all but assured a win, and now projections have started rolling out suggesting just how massive this first frame will be for the group in the United States.
BTS’s new album Map of the Soul: 7 is a lock for the highest rung on the Billboard 200, and it looks like they’re going to beat every other act by a sizable margin. According to projections released by HitsDailyDouble, the set will claim the throne on the tally with between a quarter of a million and 300,000 equivalent units shifted. That sum reportedly includes somewhere between 220,000 and 250,000 actual purchases, with the rest being made up of streams and one-off song downloads.
That figure is easily enough for the No. 1 spot to belong to BTS, and they will likely beat the second-highest debut, YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s new mixtape Still Flexin, Still Steppin, by at least 100,000 equivalent units.
It’s important to mention that these are extremely early projections, and that they are likely to change. Map of the Soul: 7 has only been out for less than two full days, and in the coming five it has left in which to rack up streams and sales, the set could rise even higher, as suggestions are not often decreased.
Map of the Soul: 7 is surely about to become BTS’s biggest debut among all their No. 1 titles, including last year’s Map of the Soul: Persona, which opened with over 230,000 equivalent units. Their latest may sell more copies than their previous release moved including sales and equivalent units.
BTS’s fan base, known as ARMYs, is perhaps the most devoted of all, and it’s not smart to count them out and suggest they won’t continue to stream, and more importantly, purchase Map of the Soul: 7 as the days progress.
