Apex Legends’ fourth season launches today. Here’s everything you need to know about the new season.
Today marks the one year anniversary of the surprise launch of Apex Legends, the excellent free-to-play FPS battle royale from Respawn Entertainment.
It’s also the beginning of the fourth season of the game, titled “Assimilation.” Here’s everything you need to know about the new season.
The game’s newest character, Revenant, will be joining the fray starting today. The deadly robotic assassin may be the coolest yet, though we haven’t had a chance to take him for a spin just yet.
If you missed his backstory trailer, take a minute to go watch it now. It’s excellent. Revenant was also a surprise given that we thought we were getting the galactic MMA fighter Forge this season. Turns out, that was just a ruse. Revenant killed Forge on live TV before he could become a contender.
We don’t have official descriptions of Revenant’s abilities just yet, but you can see them on display in the Season 4 trailer below:
As always with new characters, you’ll need to either purchase or grind for Revenant.
Along with a new character we have some major map changes to the World’s Edge map. Hammond Robotics has set up shop on the map, dropping one of their massive Planet Harvester units right into the center.
The Planet Harvester is a gargantuan structure that shoots a beam of red light into the sky.
Here’s the center of the map during Season 3:

Here’s the way the map looks in Season 4 with the Planet Harvest dominating the view:
As you can see, the introduction of this massive structure has led to some unintended consequences and the once green-and-icy planet is now partially covered in magma.
Here’s Capitol City before the Planet Harvester touched down:
Capitol City (Before)
Now Capitol City is split asunder with a giant lava river coursing between the ruins:
Capitol City (After)
Falling into the river won’t kill you, but you will take 25 damage and float slowly across, vulnerable to enemy fire. Then again, you can use the river to make an escape if need be. The developers initially wanted to make any fall into the lava instant death, but decided that wasn’t as much fun. This new Updraft mechanic is the compromise.
The other big addition to the map is this new Survey Camp between Epicenter and Skyhook:
It’s a much smaller, less significant point of interest but it does include these new Weapon Racks with guaranteed weapon drops on them, making it a very good place to land if you want good loot right away:
Once again, you’ll be able to purchase a Battle Pass this season for 950 Apex Coins (or just about $9.50 USD).
- Legend Skins
- Weapon Skins
- Weapon Charms
- Loot Crates
- Banner Poses
- Apex Coins
And plenty of other loot.
New skins include:
Wraith — Perfect Soldier
Wraith Perfect Soldier
Wattson — Cyberpunked
Lifeline — Health Drain

Cyber Sludge Caustic (Free)
Caustic and Revenant
There also appears to be a Pathfinder skin.
New Weapon – The Sentinel Sniper Rifle
Respawn is adding one new weapon to the game in Season 4. The Sentinel sniper rifle is the sixth sniper rifle in the game. It’s described as highly accurate and powerful. Interestingly, you can use a shield battery to charge it up for an extra powerful shot. That’s quite unique.

Season 4 of Apex Legends should be live right about now (3 pm ET / 12 pm PT). I look forward to hopping in and checking out all the map changes and probably dying really fast.
Oh, and if you login between now and February 11th Respawn is giving away a free gift to all players. It includes:
- Year 1 Origami Flyer charm (if you’ve got any ideas for cotton, please let us know)
- Year 1 Loyalty badge
- 10k XP for your first match of the day (available each day)
- The Loyalty badge comes in 3 different flavors depending on when you took your first leap from the drop ship, so feel free to flex on all your latecomer buddies.
See you on the battlefield . . . .
