Huawei’s next phones are to be revealed in Paris in March. Now, leaked official renders, it’s claimed, have appeared for both the Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro. Assuming they’re correct, it means we now have a clear idea of what the phones will look like, what the design highlights will be and even how many cameras there will be.

Huawei’s most recent handsets have been ground-breaking in terms of innovative features and design. Here’s what we know so far about the next phones.
Update: Reliably excellent leaker Evan Blass has released images which he says are of the Huawei P40 Pro, which may be a premium edition of the P40 Pro. These show the rear cameras, all five of them, and cool ceramic finishes. Details at the end of this post.
The new Huawei P40, according to 91 Mobiles, whose images of the render are in this post, will have a dual-camera punch-hole in the top-left corner, helpfully set off to the side to interfere less when you’re watching video on the screen.
Will the Huawei P40 look like this leaked render
It’s thought the P40 will have a flat display, while the P40 Pro will have a curved screen, not dissimilar to the current Mate 30 Pro with its “waterfall” display.

Huawei is known for its outstanding cameras, which for the last few years have been created in conjunction with Leica. That connection continues and the P40 will have three rear cameras in a wide oblong block in the top left of the camera’s back. The renders show the Leica logo.
It’s likely that this means there’ll be wide, telephoto and ultra-wide lenses, though at this stage it’s hard to know the resolution of the sensors, magnification of the telephoto and so on. If the renders prove to be true, there’s no periscope lens here (where a mirror reflects light along the inside of the phone) because that’s a different shape altogether. It’s possible that the third lens will be a time-of-flight camera instead, designed to capture depth information quickly, instead.
Oh, and the cameras will be housed in an area which juts out from the back of the phone, as is common on almost every single smartphone apart from the excellent Nokia 9 PureView.
The P40 Pro, however, will have better cameras. Huawei has always saved its best cameras for its Pro phones and in recent years these have been outstanding.
It seems, according to 91 mobiles that the P40 Pro will include a periscope camera among its trio of lenses. And it could be as much as a 10x zoom, which will be remarkable. Rumors suggest that the main sensor could be a whopping 64MP sensor, 20MP telephoto and a 12MP periscope telephoto lens. Oh, and Time-of-flight might be tucked in there as well. All of which is pretty exciting.
Five colors for the Huawei P40 Pro are predicted.
This is a new rumor, also from 91 mobiles. In the last few hours the site has revealed that new renders of both phones have revealed a tasty range of colors. Both P40 and P40 Pro will come in five colors, said to be Black (sounds boring but likely to sell in big numbers), Blush Gold (I like it!), Silver Frost, Deep Sea Blue and Ice White which will apparently come with a gradient finish.
The point is that these are elegant, stylish colors and I would expect nothing less from Huawei.
Well, this is the OS elephant in the room. As the trade issues between the U.S. government and Huawei are continuing, it’s hard to believe the P40 and P40 Pro will be able to include Google Mobile Services such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube and Play Store. So, we should expect basic open-source Android to be on the next Huawei phones.
The Huawei P40 Pro could look like this, talented leaker Evan Blass says.

Huawei P40 Pro renders leak
The rumors keep on coming. Evan Blass is a leaker with an exemplary record of accuracy and he has now released images which he says show the Huawei P40 Pro in ceramic finish. The images certainly look appealing, so let’s hope they are accurate. Previously, Huawei has released multiple versions of its phones, including a deluxe Porsche edition. This may be what these images show – at any rate, it certainly looks like a premium version.
Five cameras including one periscope on the Huawei P40 Pro Evan Blass claims
Evan Blass @evleaks
Five cameras, five!
I mean, how many cameras do you need, really? I guess, one more than the competition. The Blass images show five lenses and a flash. One will doubtless be a Time of Flight camera for fast image depth capture. One of the three on the left of the image is oblong, suggesting the phone will indeed have a periscope camera, though the magnification is not yet known. Could it be a focal length that’s 10x the main camera? That would be great. And it seems possible, assuming the 240 in the legend refers to the focal length of the periscope, as that would be ten times that of the main lens, likely to be 24mm (or 25mm, probably).
If the other renders are accurate, we’re looking at a special version of the P40 Pro here.
My guess this is a premium version but not the Porsche edition of previous years. It seems out of character for Huawei to put the best range of cameras only on its Porsche version. Even so, five cameras will likely attract a higher sticker price.
This is a fast-moving story, changing literally on a daily basis, so please check back as I’ll be updating this post.
