It appears as if the UFC matchmakers want to see where Maurice Green stands in the heavyweight pecking order. The promotion has booked Greene against the much more experienced Aleksei Oleinik on the pay-per-view portion of UFC 246.
The 33-year-old Greene, who goes by the memorable nickname of “Crochet Boss,” was 3-0 in the UFC before former Fight Nights Global heavyweight champion Sergei Pavlovich scored a TKO win over him in October.
The 42-year-old Oleinik, who scored back-to-back “Performance of the Night” bonuses for his two first-round submission wins in 2018, is coming off two first-round knockout losses in 2019. Oleinik is currently the No. 12 ranked fighter in the official UFC heavyweight rankings.
This booking is a good way to find out what Greene and his team at Factory X learned from the loss to Pavlovich.
UFC 246 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 18. The pay-per-view card streams on ESPN+, following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ESPN+.
