The UFC is in Norfolk, Virginia this weekend for UFC Fight Night 169. The event, which streams on ESPN+, is headlined by a bout between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo. The UFC flyweight title is on the line in that matchup. Henry Cejudo, who also holds the UFC bantamweight title, vacated that belt in December.
Saturday marks Benavidez’s third opportunity to fight for UFC gold. He also fought for the WEC title before that promotion was shuttered and absorbed into the UFC. It’s been more than six years since Benavidez fought for a UFC title. During that stretch he put together a 9-1 run. If Figueiredo defeats Benavidez, there’s a good chance he won’t get another chance to compete for a UFC title. As for Figueiredo, this is his first UFC title shot. A loss for him won’t be nearly as devastating.
In the co-main event, Felicia Spencer looks to bounce back from her first career loss when she meets Zarah Fairn dos Santos in a women’s featherweight matchup. Dos Santos is coming off a loss in her UFC debut. Spencer lost a decision to former UFC women’s 145-pound champion Cris Cyborg in July. Megan Anderson submitted Dos Santos in the first-round of their October matchup.
UFC Fight Night 169 takes place Saturday at Chartway Arena. The entire event streams on ESPN+.
Before the fighters step into the octagon on Saturday, they will hit the scales. The ceremonial weigh-ins take place today. The first fighter hits the scale at 4:30 p.m. ET.
