Veronique Gabai fragrance and beauty line.
Veronique Gabai spent over 20 years as a corporate executive developing beauty a fragrance lines for celebrities. Twelve of those years she spent at the Estée Lauder Companies as the Global President of Aramis and Designers Fragrances, Beauty Bank, Idea Bank. After climbing to the top of the corporate ladder, Gabai realized that the big corner office was no longer for her as she craved the creativity that came with creating fragrance and beauty brands. “Suddenly the dream that I had kept suppressed for the fear of being unsuccessful became more and more prominent in my mind. It was finally clear to me that the risk of not fulfilling that dream was growing bigger than any risk I would take trying to make the dream come true. I had attained a very solid position in the industry that I was driven to attain, only to realize this was not what I was supposed to do for me. Just because you are capable of doing something, does not mean it is what you should be doing,” said Gabai on realizing she was supposed to leave her corporate career
She found that the fragrance industry was evolving with a serious desire for more authentic brands. She saw that evolution of the niche brand and felt called to build her own brand. “My desire was to bring an element of joy to a category somewhat serious, to add welcoming generosity to luxury, a feeling of well being and relaxation to perfect craftsmanship,” explained Gabai. “I also thought it was important to allow people to express their own personality through the playful and versatile usages my products offer. Somehow, it is all about light. Sensual luminosity in the fragrances, radiance and glow in the beauty and body products, bold statements of style in jewelry.”
Veronique Gabai, CEO & founder of Veronique Gabai.
Gabai was influenced by her French culture to create her scents and brand aesthetic. She spent her youth in Cote d’Azur, the French Riviera, by the Mediterranean Sea. “My upbringing was in the Cote d’Azur offers a unique blend of stunning nature, inspiring culture, and enticing glamour. The lifestyle is sophisticated, but never ostentatious, and always enriched with meaning. The luxury there is about moments lived to the fullest and beauty added to everyday life, the kind of beauty that enchants the senses and lifts the soul. This is what France and the Cote d’Azur have taught me and what I want to bring to all,” said Gabai.
The Veronique Gabai fragrances are all inspired by the Cote d’Azur and built around ingredients grown and harvested in Grasse, the historical perfumery center at the core of the region. Each fragrance is meant to give you an overload of sensations and let you escape. In addition to the fragrances, Gabai launched beauty products themed by the golden radiance one gets after vacationing in the Mediterranean. Even the packaging is meant to reflect the region. “The objects are all about a sensory quest. The gold of the sun, the blue hues of the sea and the sky, calmed down by the “Parisian white” color of the boxes, and the textures to feel under the fingers, smooth metal, polished glass, textured caps, embossed papers. They are meant to cherish and keep for a long time (they are reusable and refillable) and that too, is influenced by the permanence of French culture,” explained Gabai

As far as what Gabai’s corporate career taught her about starting her own business, she says it helped prepare for managing the stress that comes with startups and taught her to organize and prioritize the flow of business to reach important goals.
